Foods such as whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies all should be included in your diet. You should also make sure that you have plenty of dried beans, nuts, seeds and legumes in your diet. Make sure that your diet is more alkaline than acidic. It is the kind of diet that will help prevent you from getting sick as often since viruses and bad bacteria don't survive in an alkaline atmosphere. A lot of nutritionists believe that your diet should be 80% alkaline and the rest acidic. Acidic foods will be your meats, poultry, fish, grains and breads and the alkaline are your fresh foods like fruits and vegetables.

You can also try to prevent getting the flu by eating a lot of garlic, garlic is natures antibiotic. You should also make sure that you eat the kinds of foods that will make your immune system stronger and that's things like a chicken broth or a vegetable soup made with a lot of different herbs and spices. Don't forget ginger root, adding some of this herb grated into boiling water and you have a healing tea for both the cold and flu.
